Blue and white bedroom design

Over the weekend I got the chance to chat with a friend who is thinking of redoing several spaces in her house.  One of those is the master bedroom.  I came up with a little plan using their existing furniture, and thought I'd share it with you here too.

The biggest changes to the room would be paint, bedding, and accessories.  I started with a simple white and blue striped duvet.  To add a little more pattern, you could purchase some coordinating throw pillows.  There are lots of blue and white options out there, but I like this set of ikat ones and the personalized monogram pillow.  On either side of the bed, hang one of these very reasonably priced sconces.  The swing arm makes them practical for reading in bed, plus mounting them on the wall frees up the nightstand tops.  Since this is a master bedroom, you could use some silver frames to display family photos (I like this Kate Spade wedding frame).  Mount a bamboo shade above the window and top it with simple white or ivory curtains for added privacy.  For the wall color, I included two choices: navy for a really cozy, cocoon-like feel, or a light khaki for a brighter look.

Sources
Wall sconces - Hampton Bay (Home Depot)
Duvet cover and shams - Chaps Marbury (Kohls)
Paint color - "Midnight Navy" (Benjamin Moore) or "Natural Choice" (Sherwin Williams)
Pillows - Custom monogrammed, Set of two ikat (both Etsy)
"Mr. and Mrs." silver picture frame - Kate Spade (Macy's)
Bamboo roman shade - JCPenney
White curtains - Ikea RITVA

I really like the combination of blue and white, as you probably know if you've read this blog long or have ever visited my house!  Here are a few other inspiring blue and white bedrooms, ranging from dark and cozy to light and airy.

  2. Oops! I fixed the link so the room design image should show up now. Sorry about that!

Nikki, I would LOVE to paint a wall high gloss in our house. I am not sure how durable it would be with little kids, but I love the lacquer look.
